Why "The LORD's Day" Should Be the Sabbath Day (Saturday)

1. The Establishment of the Sabbath: The Foundation in Genesis

(Genesis 2:2-3) And on the seventh day GOD finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3So GOD blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it GOD rested from all his work that he had done in creation. (ESV)

♦ The Seventh Day in the Bible: GOD rested on the seventh day and set it apart as holy, making it the first day in human history to be specifically blessed by GOD.

♦ GOD Himself Blessed the Sabbath: This sanctity was established not by human tradition but by the LORD GOD Himself, as a day for all humanity to remember creation.

2. The Fourth Commandment: GOD's Direct Instruction

(Exodus 20:8-11) Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your GOD. ... Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

♦ Clear Command in the Fourth Commandment.

♦ GOD instructed His people to remember and keep the Sabbath as a holy day, a law that cannot be altered.

♦ The Sabbath as the seventh day is tied to creation (Exodus 20:11), emphasizing its divine origin rather than human tradition.

♦ The Sabbath as an Everlasting Covenant:

♦ Emphasized in (Exodus 31:16-17) The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for generations to come as a lasting covenant.

3. JESUS and His Disciples Observed the Sabbath

♦ JESUS Observed the Sabbath:

♦ (Luke 4:16) He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the synagogue, as was His custom.

♦ JESUS did not abolish the Sabbath but corrected misunderstandings about it, see (Mark 2:27-28) The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

♦ The Disciples Continued to Keep the Sabbath:

♦ (Acts 17:2) As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures.

♦ Early Christians, including Paul, continued to observe the Sabbath for worship and teaching.

4. Misunderstandings About "The LORD's Day"

♦ (Revelation 1:10) I was in the Spirit on the LORD's Day....

♦ Many mistakenly associate "The LORD's Day" with Sunday, but the Bible provides no support for Sunday as a day of worship.

♦ The LORD's Day is the Sabbath: JESUS explicitly said in (Mark 2:28) The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

♦ Historical Changes:

♦ Roman Emperor Constantine declared Sunday a day of rest in A.D. 321, which gradually replaced the Sabbath through human tradition rather than biblical authority.

5. The Significance and Symbolism of the Sabbath

♦ (Hebrews 4:9-10) There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of GOD; for anyone who enters GOD's rest also rests from their works, just as GOD did from His.

♦ The Sabbath foreshadows eternal rest and serves as a sign of the covenant between GOD and His people, pointing to ultimate redemption.

6. The Bible's Consistency on the Seventh Day

♦ At (Exodus 16:22-30) - GOD clearly instructed the Israelites to rest on the seventh day in the wilderness, showing the Sabbath's importance.

♦ JESUS warned at (Matthew 24:20) "Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath," indicating the Sabbath's continued significance even in the future.

Conclusion: The LORD's Day is the Sabbath Day (Saturday)

1. The Bible clearly identifies the Sabbath as the seventh day (Saturday), blessed and sanctified by the LORD GOD.

2. Neither JESUS nor the apostles abolished the Sabbath but upheld and taught its true meaning.

3. Sunday as a day of worship is a later human tradition with no biblical basis.

To honor the LORD GOD's commandment, the true "LORD's Day" must be the Sabbath, the seventh day of the week (Saturday).
